In 2019, from November 17 to 22, the members were revealed each day in the following order: Bum Jun, Jung Hyun, Ji Seob, Hyun Woong, and Ho Jin. It was revealed that the band will be a collaboration between Morph and GOGO2020. The band officially made their debut on January 14, 2020 with the first EP We Tuzi:.
They opened their fan cafe two days later. To promote their album, they went on various music shows including Simply Kpop and M Countdown. On April 23, 2Z announced on their Twitter the pre-order event to buy signed CDs of their then upcoming second EP Nostrum.
They released the track list on April 28. The album preview was released on April 30 and their showcase was held on May 4 with the video being released the next day. The group released their second EP on May 5.
On June 17, it was announced that Hyun Woong had decided to leave the band. Hyun Woong was replaced with Zunon, who was revealed as their newest member on July 5. 2Z released their first digital single "Let's Go For It" on August 1, 2020.
Their second full-length album, Reworks, was released on April 30, 2022. On October 12, they signed an exclusive contract with UZUROCKS Entertainment, but they also stay with GOGO2020. On December 3, they announced that they would make their comeback with the fifth EP Reason on December 8.
On June 4, 2023, 2Z announced their sixth EP Like a Movie, which was released on June 12. On January 2, 2024, 2Z announced their seventh EP Do Not Disturb, which will be released on January 10. On July 1, 2Z announced their fourth digital single "Playground", which will be released on July 19.
On November 12, 2024, GOGO20 announced Ji Seob has left 2Z due to health reasons. On January 5, 2025, 2Z announced their eighth EP, Glorious Youth, scheduled for January 9. On January 6, 2025, NUVorn was introduced as the newest member of the group.

On August 20, 2025, GOGO2020 announced that NUVorn had decided to leave the group. On September 20, 2025, Nua was introduced as the newest member of the group. On January 7, 2Z announced their sixth digital single, "6 (Six)", scheduled for January 14.
