Prior to the debut of 24K, the acoustic pop sub-unit 4K debuted on June 12, 2012 with the mini album Rocking Girl with the members being Cory, Seokjune, Kisu and Sungoh. After concluding the activities surrounding their debut, Choeun Entertainment announced they are going to add two new members to the group to make it complete. The new members were Daeil and Byungho, the 2 dancing machines (rappers).
The participated in the presidential campaign for Moon Jae In by performing the theme song "사람이 웃는다" (transliterated as "People Smile"). In January 2015, rumors about Byungho spread. Byungho was believed to have married a non-celebrity woman in October 2012, one month after his debut with the group, and had a baby with his wife in November of the same year.
He allegedly kept his marriage and child a secret from the company and the group. On April 13, 2015, the group released their first single since U R So Cute, "Hey You". Hui and Jinhong joined this comeback as new members, but remained unrevealed throughout the promotions for the single, wearing masks during performances and in the music video.
In September, the group was caught in another scandal when a video of Daeil fighting with a foreigner in a bar was leaked to the public. Choeun Entertainment responded and explained the fight was staged and part of the group's Super Fly comeback trailer, which was eventually released on the 21st. Super Fly was subsequently released on October 1.
In May 2018, articles were published on the artists blacklisted by the Park Geun Hye administration. The list barred certain artists from being able to partake in certain opportunities and government funding. The list had already been uncovered in October 2016 and was revealed fully in April 2018.
Five of the six original members (Cory, Seokjune, Byungho, Daeil, and Kisu) and a manager of the group were included on the list. In an interview with Billboard, the members of 24K said they were not aware they had been banned and did not know the reason, although the suspected it had to do with the group singing the theme song for the Moon Jae In campaign in 2012. In May 2018, 24K also announced they would be making their comeback with their fifth mini album Bonnie N Clyde.
Member Kisu was unable to participate in the promotions of the album due to his miltary service, but did record a version of the title track "Bonnie N Clyde" for the album, which is also the audio used in the dance practice, and a solo song, which he wrote with fans during a Vlive. The group was joined by Kiyong this comeback, who was first revealed at the group's performance at the 2018 Dream Concert on May 12. In 2019, 24K saw the departures of all but two members: Changsun and Kiyong.
New members Xiwoo and Imchan were revealed on the group's Instagram, and on November 18, the group was confirmed to be preparing for a comeback in the first half of 2020 with yet more new members. On May 26, 2020, the four remaining members of 24K had announced that the hidden member, #5 and Dojun had left citing personal differences. Member #5's name and face were revealed being Youmin, after he left and became an A+ Entertainment trainee and the leader of their upcoming boy group A+ Boys.
On June 12, 2021, 24K released the single "Mainstreet" The single was not promoted on music shows, as it was a promotional single for a cafe of the same name which had just opened up. It was the first song featuring the new members and the members participated themsleves in directing the music video. In December, it was revealed Changsun had made it into the debut group of MBC's audition program Wild Idol TAN.
He would therefore be going on hiatus. In 2022, a notice was posted on the group's fancafe saying that Youngwoong had departed from 24K. On January 9, it was confirmed that 24K will partake in JTBC's Peak Time as a five-member group.
