Under Nineteen, which began airing on November 3, 2018, concluded on February 9, 2019 where the final 9 members were chosen during the live finale broadcast. It was also revealed the group would be called 1THE9. On February 26, the debut date was set to April 12, 2019 (later changed to the 13th).
On the same day, the concept photos of the members was revealed. On April 5, the debut timeline started and the name of the album was revealed to be XIX with the title track being "Spotlight". A pre-debut title track, "Domino", which was written and produced by Under Nineteen's vocal trainer Crush, was released on April 7.
The group then made their official debut on April 13 with the release of the mini album. On April 17, they held their debut showcase through V Live, with their fandom and fandom color announced to be Wonderland and Lime Punch, respectively. On October 17, 2019, 1THE9 released their second mini album Blah Blah.
On July 6, the group announced they would be coming back with their third mini album, Turn Over, on July 16. On July 27, it was confirmed that the group would be disbanding on August 8. They were originally scheduled to disband on July 8 but due to their comeback being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was extended by a month.
On August 3, 1THE9 announced that they would be releasing their final mini album, Good Bye 1THE9, on August 5. The album is a special gift to their fans prior to the group's disbandment. Following the disbandment of 1THE9, the members went their separate ways: - Yoo Yong Ha and Kim Jun Seo debuted as members of WEi on October 5, 2020.
- Kim Jun Seo participated in the survival show, Boys II Planet. He ranked eighth overall, thus making him a member of the project boy group ALPHA DRIVE ONE. The group made their debut with the mini album Euphoria on January 12, 2026.
- Park Sung Won debuted as a member of Ciipher on March 15, 2021 and made his solo debut on December 4, 2023. - Shin Ye Chan debuted as a member of OMEGA X on June 30, 2021. - Jeon Do Yum left PlayM BOYS and debuted as a member of JUST B on June 30, 2021.
- Kim Tae Woo debuted as a member of BLANK2Y on May 24, 2022. - Lee Seung Hwan left PlayM BOYS, participated in the survival shows LOUD and Boys Planet and made his solo debut on September 9, 2023. - Jung Jin Sung left PlayM BOYS.
- Jeong Taek Hyeon is focusing on his acting career.
