On June 3, 2020, Nicholas was introduced as a participant in the CJ ENM and Big Hit Entertainment's upcoming survival show I-LAND. On the first episode, he performed "Jopping" by SuperM, along with Hanbin and NI-KI and was able to enter "I-LAND". Because of an average score of 59, half of the I-LANDER team had to be sent to "Ground" in the third episode.
Nicholas was the fifth one to be sent as he received 8 votes. On the seventh episode, he was unfortunately eliminated from the show and was unable to participate in Part 2. On January 1, 2021, he was revealed as a member of the HYBE Labels Japan's Global Debut Project boy group.
The group, tentatively named &AUDITION Boys, will make their debut in 2022. On June 4, 2022, Nicholas was introduced as a participant in the HYBE Labels Japan's upcoming survival show &AUDITION - The Howling -. In the final episode, which was aired on September 3, he was announced as one of the contestants who will be debuting in the winning group &TEAM.
They debuted on December 7, 2022 with the mini album First Howling : ME.
