In 2020, Rainbow Company (later known as Rainbow E&M) created Future Idol, an idol development project for the purpose of debuting various project idol groups throughout 2021 through its project, known as 'Future Idol Asia'. While pre-debut, WINNY was one of several teen groups that participated in the second Future Idol showcase. On October 7, WINNY released a teaser for their debut digital single "Like A Star".
They eventually debuted on October 14, 2022.
