Prior to their debut, the members were active in various fields: Showking worked at a large company but later quit to major in musical theater in college, Seed was a member of the national taekwondo team's reserve force, Park Sunghee majored in applied music and worked as a lyricist, S2 majored in early childhood education and worked as a kindergarten teacher for over two years, Shin Ahreum majored in makeup and Jung Ayoung majored in musical theater. On March 28, 2012, Vivid made their debut with the mini album Attention Me and the title track "You're Busted". On June 27, 2013, the group released their first studio album Breathless.
After this release, the group saw the departure of Seed in October 2013 then Songyi in December 2014. On February 6, 2015, Vivid returned as four after 1 year and 8 months with the digital single "Don't Lie To Me". On September 21, the group appeared at a charity event and revealed their new three-member lineup, consisting of Showking, Ahreum and new member Seolrin.
On March 9, 2016, the group debuted their first semi-trot sub-unit Thank You, consisting of Ayoung, Sunghee and Ahreum, with the digital single "보일랑 말랑". In August, it was reported that Lee, the CEO of an entertainment agency, had been arrested for forcing a trainee to take off her clothes, along with Shin, a girl group member, for aiding and abetting the coercion by taking off her clothes first. However, the arrest warrant for Shin was rejected on the grounds that there was no risk of flight.
Although their identities were never officially confirmed, Lee and Shin were widely believed to be N. Tree Entertainment’s CEO Lee Seongmo and Vivid member Shin Ahreum, based on matching details. Whether the speculation proved accurate or the controversy simply generated too much negative attention, N.
Tree Entertainment ultimately shut down and Vivid appears to have quietly disbanded.
