In April 2016, Shine Entertainment's CEO, Rebecca Han, began introducing the agency's latest four-member girl group VIVA. The group was often paired with the agency's string quartet SHINE wherein VIVA provided the vocals and SHINE performed as musicians. As a collaborative unit, they were called SHINEnVIVA.
By August 2016, VIVA began performing as a trio. Later, on December 9, Shine Entertainment's CEO shared that have opened auditions for aspiring singers, suggesting they are recruiting new members for the group. In early 2017, Shine Entertainment VIVA continued performed at events to promote themselves prior to debut.
They still performed with SHINE occasionally. Member Gayeon was also a guest vocalist for this group. On October 13, 2017, VIVA made their debut with their self-titled single album "Viva".
On November 4, the group performed in Singapore for the GastroMonth Circle of Excellence Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner. On November 30, it was announced that VIVA would be having have a schedule in Tainan, Taiwan with SHINE on December 1 and 2. On January 17, 2018, VIVA had their first music show appearance on Show Champion, notably a few months after their debut.
On January 25, it was announced that VIVA had signed a modeling contract of 6 months with a Chinese cosmetic brand. This made waves as it occurred in the midst of the and the cosmetic brand had signed with a rookie girl group. On February 23, VIVA became MCs and hosted the mixed martial arts event, TFC 17.
In late March, Jaeny appeared to have left the group. She was then replaced by a new member, Jay, in the following month. For the entirety of 2018, VIVA mainly promoted at small events and didn't release any new music.
The group became inactive by the later part of the year with their last known public appearance in August and their SNS accounts had suddenly disappeared. Meanwhile, Shine E&M started promoting new trainees in November. Gayeon later opened a YouTube channel where she posts songs cover under the name JJooya in December.
Therefore, it is presumed that VIVA had unofficially disbanded sometime in late 2018. On March 15, 2019, Shine E&M This led to fans speculating the return of the group. Following the disbandment of VIVA, all the members went their separate ways: In 2025, it was revealed she helped her husband animating ' by doing references videos for the character's movement.
- Jaeny became active as a model and DJ. Currently, she is going by the stage name DJ Lua. - Yeji became a model, actress and content creator.
However, she later went inactive on her SNS accounts and removed videos from her YouTube channel sometime around 2021–2022. She went on to live a private life until 2025. On July 26, 2025, Yeji returned to the public by reopening her Instagram account wherein she is currently focused on her modeling and content creating career.
- Lea became a model, influencer, actress and MC. She has appeared in several music videos, advertisements and fashion runways. In 2020, she opened her YouTube channel and TikTok account, beginning her influencing career.
In 2021, she appeared in the film '. She has also made her solo debut on November 11, 2022 with her first digital single "A Good Day To Love" under the stage name J'LEA. In 2024, she ranked 5th overall on the survival show Time Turner making her a part of the debut lineup of I.
MET. U. - Jay appears to have left the entertainment industry with her circumstances still currently unknown.
