Guseul began her career as a BJ on December 3, 2017 following the expiration of her contract with an unnamed company. Guseul went onto making her debut as a soloist on December 4, 2018 with the release of her first digital single, "This Love". On February 15, 2019, she released a Valentine's Day collaborative song with HWAN, titled "I Like You, I Hate You".
Later on in 2019, Guseul took part in AfreecaTV's survival audition project, Best of the Best, a show aiming to debut a girl group composed of BJs. Gu Seul was one of the final six winners, which earned her a place to debut in the girl group, VIOLET. Gu Seul debuted with VIOLET on September 1, 2019 with the release of their first digital single, "Best of the Best".
VIOLET disbanded just four weeks later on September 29, 2019. On September 3, 2020, Guseul made her first comeback with the release of the digital single "A Song For You". Following the release of her comeback, Guseul rebranded as a trot singer to become Kim Guseul, and on October 8, 2020, released her first trot single album "Back and Forth".
