In late 2009, RUBY began promoting across South Korea as a professional dance performance group. In 2010, the team formally introduced their lineup through their now-deleted Daum Café page, consisting of Chanhee, Hyerim, Soojin, Sori, Yeseul and one unidentified member. In early 2011, the group appeared to have been reorganized, then consisting of Soojin, Sori, and Yeseul and two new members: Hyunjung and Jooyoung.
The group maintained this lineup and continued performing across South Korea throughout late 2011 and early 2012. On April 9, 2012, RUBY officially debuted as an idol group with the digital single "Get Down". Following their debut, RUBY held a showcase in the Philippines on April 15.
On May 11, the group announced plans for a Southeast Asian tour from June to September, with stops in Japan, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and a return to the Philippines. For the remainder of the year, they continued performing as an idol dance group across Asia. After a brief hiatus at the end of 2012, Jooyoung updated her Facebook page in January 2013, featuring only four members, excluding Hyunjung.
Although no official statement was made regarding her status, all subsequent posts and performances only featured the remaining four members, indicating Hyunjung’s unofficial departure. In May 2013, RUBY began performing a new song titled "Flower World", which was presumed to be part of an upcoming comeback. However, the group ended up being inactive shortly after this.
In October, the group released new profile photos, as well as returning to promoting at local events, which included performances with the previously performed unreleased track. However, by late December, the group became inactive once again, suggesting a quiet disbandment following failed comeback plans. In May 2016, the group appeared to have been revived as a dance team, featuring Chanhee, who had previously promoted with the group in 2010, alongside four new members.
During this period, HY Entertainment rebranded as HY Company and, in August, introduced a new profile for the group. The profile stated: "This girl group can perform with any composition of 4 to 6 members [... ]”.
As a result, the number of active members during this time fluctuated between four and six. They continued performing until early September, with the final lineup consisting of Chany, Ina, Daeun and Line. On October 27, 2016, HY Company announced a new idol group, Ureka, composed of RUBY’s final lineup along with a newly recruited member, I.
N. Following this announcement and the lack of further updates, it is assumed that RUBY quietly ended their activities and was rebranded as Ureka. Following the disbandment of RUBY, the members went their separate ways.
- Jooyoung, Soojin and Sori, under the stage names SeA, Vivi and Lili, respectively, became members of the dance team and cancelled girl group B. GLAM. - Sori later became a member the dance team PAPILLON.
- Jooyoung and Vivi joined the dance and DJing team Lady Monster in 2018. - Jooyoung later joined the girl group T-Angel in 2022. The circumstances of the remaining members are still currently unknown.
