DSP Media teased all RAINBOW members before their official debut, with some gaining viral attention due to their backgrounds. On November 12, 2009, RAINBOW officially debuted with their first mini album "Gossip Girl". On August 12, 2010, Rainbow made their first comeback with their first digital single "A".
Quickly it was released RAINBOW's second digital single "Mach", on October 10, 2010. On April 7, 2011, Rainbow released their second EP, "So Girl". On June 22, 2011, Rainbow released a repackaged version of their second mini album.
On September 14, 2011, Rainbow officially debuted in Japan with the Japanese version of their first digital single, "A". Two months later, on December 7, they released the Japanese version of "Mach. " On January 3, 2012, DSP Media announced Rainbow's comeback with a sub-unit, Rainbow Pixie, consisting of Seungah, Jisook, and Hyunyoung.
They debuted on January 12 with the digital single "Hoi Hoi". On March 14, 2012, Rainbow released their third Japanese digital single, "Gonna Gonna Go! ".
On May 4, 2012, they released their first Japanese album, Over The Rainbow. A year later, on February 13, 2013, Rainbow released the first part of their Korean debut album, Rainbow Syndrome. The second part was released on June 4, 2013.
In early 2014, DSP Media announced a new sub-unit for the group, Rainbow Blaxx. It consisted of members Woori, Seungah, Jaekyung, and Hyunyoung. They officially debuted on January 20, 2014.
On February 23, 2015. Rainbow returned with their third Korean mini album, "Innocent", On February 15, 2016, they released their fourth Korean mini album, "Prism". During the summer of the same year, Rainbow released their photography album, Close Up, a collaboration with various photographers and RAINBOW.
The album's release was entirely funded by their fans. On October 28, 2016, DSP Media announced Rainbow's disbandment after the members decided to go their separate ways following the expiration of their contracts on November 12, 2016. In November 2019, on their tenth anniversary, Rainbow reunited and self-produced a special anniversary single titled "Over the Rainbow", which was released on November 14.
On June 27, 2025, it was announced that K-Tigers E&C will be producing the sub-unit Rainbow 18 consisting of members Woori and Hyunyoung, which will debut on August 1. - Following Rainbow's disbandment in 2016, Woori, Seungah, Jaekyung, No Eul, and Yoonhye returned to using their birth names and pursued careers in acting. - Ko Woori got engaged to a businessman five years her senior, as announced by her agency on August 3, 2022.
The couple married on October 3, 2022. - Yoonhye announced her engagement to actor Ahn Jae-min via Instagram on September 4, 2024. They officially married on October 13, 2024.
- Jaekyung married her non-celebrity boyfriend in the summer of 2024, as confirmed by Namoo Actors on December 16, 2024. - No Eul revealed on January 20, 2025, that she would be getting married in April 2025. - Jisook focused on music instead of acting.
She debuted as a soloist on May 22, 2018, with the digital single "Umbrella" and later contributed to multiple drama soundtracks. - On June 29, 2020, Jisook, alongside her husband, computer programmer Lee Doo Hee, announced their marriage, which was scheduled for October 31st, of the same year. - Hyunyoung pursued career in acting, singing, and variety entertainment.
- On November 23, 2023, she appeared as one of the eight female cast members of the web entertainment show SuperGirls' Battle, a live-action adaptation of the mobile game Supergirls War. - On March 2, 2024, she was announced as one of the mentors of the idol survival program Girls Frontier.
