In March 2018, RBW began a YouTube channel called 365 Practice to highlight their female trainees before it morphed into promoting their upcoming girl group, using the channel's name. The project has saw many changes to its lineup of trainees. The trainees Kim Young Seo, Kim Sung Eun, Jung Do Hae, Mo Mo and Seo Ji Heun had left the agency and the project after terminating their contracts.
Yesol appeared on promotional pictures with the other members but left right before the reveal of the group name. On July 20, 2020, the group released their first debut trailer with the lineup and their official group name, PURPLE K! SS.
From July 21 to August 2, the seven members of the group were revealed, starting with Ireh, followed by Swan, Yuki, Goeun, Chaein, Jieun and Dosie, respectively. On September 30, it was announced by the agency that member Swan would be entering in a temporary hiatus due to health reasons. On November 18, a scheduler posted on the group's SNS accounts announced the release of their first pre-debut digital single, "My Heart Skip a Beat" on November 26.
On December 24, RBW announced Swan would be returning to group activities. On January 28, 2021, PURPLE K! SS announced that they would be releasing their second pre-debut digital single "Can We Talk Again" on February 3.
On March 1, 2021, teasers posted on the group's SNS accounts revealed their debut date to be March 15. On December 11, a teaser was posted for their first digital single "My My", which was released on December 18. On March 8, 2022, the group's Twitter posted a logo motion video for their third mini album, MemeM, which was released on March 29.
On July 7, the group's Twitter posted a logo motion video for their fourth mini album, Geekyland, which was released on July 25. On November 18, RBW released a statement revealing that Jieun would be leaving PURPLE KISS due to poor physical conditions and anxiety symptoms. She also shared a handwritten letter to the fans following her departure.
On January 31, 2023, PURPLE KISS posted a logo motion video on their SNS for their fifth mini album, Cabin Fever, which was released on February 15. On February 17, the group's Japanese Twitter announced that they would be making their Japanese debut on March 22 with the mini album Dear Violet. On August 11, Star News reported that Purple Kiss are in the final preparations for their comeback in September.
RBW later confirmed the report. On August 17, PURPLE KISS posted a logo motion video on their SNS for their first single album, "Festa", which was released on September 5. Member Yuki will not be able to participate in album promotions due to promotions with EL7Z UP after September 14.
On September 27, Yuki will return to PURPLE KISS activities and complete EL7Z UP promotions on music shows. On February 28, 2024, it was reported that the group will comeback with their sixth mini album in March. On March 4, the group released a logo motion video for BXX, set for release on March 19.
On May 31, the group's Japanese Twitter announced that they would be releasing their second Japanese mini album On The Violet on July 17. On October 1, it was reported that PURPLE KISS would be releasing a new album in October. On October 7, they released a logo motion video for their seventh mini album Headway, set for release on October 22.
On March 11, 2025, it was announced that PURPLE KISS will be participating in the survival show A-IDOL. On July 1, PURPLE KISS posted a logo motion video for their second single album "I Miss My... ", set for release on July 16.
On August 4, RBW announced that PURPLE KISS will be ending their group activities in November. They also announced that the group will be releasing an English album in late August, have promotions in Japan and hold concerts in the USA and South Korea during their remaining time together before their disbandment.
