On November 8, 2022, it was reported that new agency Metaverse Entertainment were preparing a virtual (AI) idol group, MAVE:, which would be released in the first half of 2023. Later reports revealed MAVE: to be a joint development between Kakao Entertainment and Netmarble F&C, the latter being a subsidiary of games developer Netmarble Corporation. Two days later, on January 10, they released a group photo revealing the virtual members of the group, consisting of MARTY:, SIU:, TYRA:, and ZENA:.
On January 11, 2023, a concept teaser video was released, announcing that MAVE: would make their debut on January 25 with their first single album, "Pandora's Box". On November 6, the group posted a logo motion for their first-ever comeback. On November 8, the group announced their first EP, What's My Name, released on November 30.
