In December 2011, it was reported that a tisco (trot disco) girl group named LAY. T would be making their debut in early 2012. The members were selected by Baeksang Entertainment through a three-year audition process and had been preparing for their debut for over a year.
On January 10, 2012, LAY. T made their debut with their first digital single "LAY. T 1st Single Album".
The lineup consisted of Daeun, Nara, Woori, Areum and Sarang. On June 13, it was reported that the group would begin recording their second single on the 15th. The same month, they announced that new members would be introduced.
On July 28, Baeksang Entertainment announced LAY. T's activities would be temporarily suspended. The following month, Woori announced on her fancafe that she had left the group and returned to working as a model.
Shortly after this, Nara also left the group. On November 4, the agency released another statement, announcing that LAY. T would return with a new lineup.
In addition, they explained that something came up during the preparation of their second album so they had to put the comeback on hold to recruit new members. In September 2014, LAY-T resumed their activities as three with Daeun, Woori and Nara. The following month, Sarang rejoined the group and they began recording their second album.
On December 5, the agency opened an audition to find their fifth member in place of Areum. By August 2015, plans for the group appeared to have been cancelled altogether as the agency announced that Daeun would become active as a composer and soloist singer on August 8.
