On November 12, 2023, Big Ocean ENM opened SNS accounts for their upcoming girl group. The following day, Big Ocean ENM disclosed in a news release that the girl group would be made up of five members and they would release a pre-debut digital single on November 22, titled "Forbidden Midnight", before making their official debut in 2024. The group started revealing its original lineup on November 13, beginning with the first member Vivi, followed by Nicole on November 14, Ahra on November 15, Yan on November 16 and Evie on November 17.
In June 2024, Vivi shared that she would no longer be debuting as part of iii and had returned to Thailand to focus on her studies. On November 28, a dance video with 3 members was posted on the group's Instagram account, confirming Evie's departure. In early 2025, all members of the original lineup had left the group.
On July 11, 2025, the group announced that it would reveal its new lineup through photos without filters, starting on July 16. On July 16, Namkhing was revealed as the first member, followed by Soobin on July 18, Taeri on July 21, Eungi on July 23, Hana on July 25 and Huran on July 27. On August 12, 2025, it was announced that they would be debuting on August 29 with the single album "Re:al iii".
On December 7, the group announced their fandom name to be iNNIT. On April 3, 2026, Big Ocean ENM announced that after careful consideration regarding the future direction of the group, the exclusive contract of Huran has been terminated thus departing from iii. The agency asks for the fans to refrain from making speculations and misunderstandings about this matter.
