HitGirlz started out as a five-member girl group performing in clubs and busking on the street. Four of the five members left in early 2019 and were replaced with new members. The group was scheduled to make their debut as a nine-member group in September 2019, but due to unknown reasons, the debut fell through.
On January 7, 2020, X Entertainment CEO Victoria revealed on her Instagram she was diagnosed with cancer. She announced the company would be restructuring and that some plans had to be changed. HitGirlz would be working on their debut album and unless something unforeseen would happen, would release the album at the latest by spring.
On June 1, the group started releasing profile pictures for their Korean members of 'Summer Story', and followed by the Japanese members on July 8 with 'Forest Story'. However, due to their sudden inactivity since August 2020 and Ryoka moving back to Japan, it is most likely they silently disbanded. Following the disbandment of HitGirlz, all the members went their separate ways: - Momoka was revealed as a third-generation member of the trainee group MyDoll Girls on March 3, 2020.
She later participated in PinkFantasy's music releases in 2021 as a guest member, and eventually joined the group as a new member on May 13, 2021. - Miji joined 2S Entertainment and became a cheerleader. - Ryoka and Ayu both participated in Happyface Entertainment's Japan audition in 2021 to find a Japanese member for their new girl group.
Both of them ended up as two of the audition's finalists. However, no winner was announced from the audition and the girl group project was eventually scrapped. In 2022, Ayu was revealed as the newest member of GKMNEO's upcoming girl group, PBT (later known as MuuTive).
The circumstances of the remaining former members are unknown.
